Homemade Bacon Lettuce Tomato Sandwich with Potato Chips.
You Should Really Be Weaving Your BLT's Bacon
By Heather Newman
The BLT is simple in name and construction, as the toasted bread foundation is layered with succulent mayonnaise, crispy bacon, lettuce, and tomato. The coveted BLT experience is one where every bite has a little bit of everything, but you especially what to highlight the bacon in this sandwich.
Maximize your bacon with a bacon lattice to guarantee that every mouthful of your sandwich is perfect. Instead of just cooking your bacon and layering it on your sandwich as usual, weave the strips into a square, place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and cook in the oven at 400 F until done.
In a video for Food and Wine, Culinary Director at Large Justin Chapple suggests flipping over a cooling rack on top of the bacon lattices before you put them in the oven. This method reduces the chance of the bacon curling, leaving you with a flat weave of evenly cooked bacon that holds its shape while enhancing your BLT.
