Bobby Flay Has The Easiest Tip Ever To Grill Onions
By Julia Mullaney
If you've ever grilled onions, you know that they come apart pretty easily. The next time you slice your onions for grilling, follow chef Bobby Flay's tip: Keep the onion skin on.
Once the onions are grilled and cooked, simply remove the skin. Instead of throwing them away, you can use the skins in other ways to avoid food waste, like making vegetable stock.
Eating onion skin is not advised because it doesn't taste good and can pose a choking hazard because it's difficult to chew, but it helps the onions stay intact on the grill.
Chef Bobby Flay relies on this tip because the skin acts as a case to hold the different layers of the onion together while also making them easier to remove from the grill.
Cut your onions width-wise as if you’re slicing onion rings. This keeps the skin in a circle and prevents it from breaking and helps it stay on while the onions cook.
