Audrey Hepburn's Favorite Meal Was A Simple Italian Classic

Audrey Hepburn is remembered for her many iconic movie roles, like Holly Golightly in "Breakfast At Tiffany's," but surprisingly, those close to her knew her as a terrific cook.
Hepburn loved Italian dishes, and her favorite dish was a spaghetti al Pomodoro, which her son Luca Dotti recalled in "Audrey at Home: Memories of My Mother's Kitchen."
"If it isn't too complicated, a lovely, simple [spaghetti] al pomodoro with a bit of olive oil would make me so happy," he recalls her saying to restaurant servers.
When Audrey Hepburn made spaghetti al pomodoro at home or had it waiting for her after returning from a long trip, as she was wont to request, she used tomatoes from her garden.
Her recipe adds celery, carrot, and onion to the base, cooked with basil and olive oil. After being strained, it's finished with sugar, olive oil, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and basil.
